I’ve always loved making homemade pizza (well for the past few years at least…) but I never knew that a good piece of pita could double as the crust. I went to Jungle Jim’s, a super grocery store that specializes in carrying all the foods of countries outside the Unites States. Super grocery doesn’t even do it justice. Anyways, in the bakery section they had a stack of 6 garlic and oregano pitas for a dollar, awesome!!
Since I’m a college student I don’t have a ton of food in the kitchen; mostly weird things that aren’t practical for daily eating like galangal root and lemon grass, which is always my problem when I go the grocery. Today, I took a nap around 6 (because getting up at 1 pm was just too exhausting apparently) and in my dream I made pita pizza, which is strange since I have never in my life made it before. I must’ve been hungry when I fell asleep. Of course when I woke up I just had to make some.
Easy Margherita Pita Pizza
- pita
- spaghetti sauce (or homemade pizza sauce if you’re feeling ambitious)
- dried basil
- tomatoes
- smoked Mozzarella
- Parmesan
- Spread as much sauce across the top of your pita as you like.
- Grate some Parm on top.
- Chop the tomato roughly and sprinkle on top along with the smoked mozzarella. You can either make slices of mozzarella or chop them in the same way you would a tomato. Either way works.
- Shake some dried basil on top and bake in the oven at 400 degrees F for about 10 minutes.
